oikos St. Gallen is a leading student-driven organisation for sustainability in economics and management at the University of St. Gallen, founded in 1987. We believe that the pursuit of social, ecological and economic sustainability are crucial to a better future, which is why we empower leaders to drive change towards sustainability worldwide. The heart of our organisation are our 70 student members who turn ideas into action in currently 9 projects. They are supported by a global community consisting of the student board, the advisory board, oikos alumni, partners and, not least, an international network of 50 oikos chapters worldwide.
The term sustainability is often only understood in an ecological sense. However, this definition of sustainability doesn't match with our understanding of this term. To us, all actors in the field of economy shall not only integrate ecological, but also social and long-term financial aspects into their decision making processes. Therefore, oikos St. Gallen is active with its projects in each one of these three aspects of sustainability. When we say sustainable, we mean socially, ecologically and financially sustainable.
Our mission is to transform economics and management education and practice by empowering student change agents, raising awareness for sustainability opportunities and challenges, and building institutional support for curriculum reform. We are enacting this mission by conducting 9 different projects in the field of sustainability in economics and management. You can find out the details of all the projects of our oikos universe here.
