The EcoMap initiative is an international project from oikos. Our goal is to promote sustainable businesses in various categories such as groceries, mobility, restaurants, recycling, cosmetics or clothing to students, residents and tourists visiting the respecting region. In order to achieve our goal, shops can register on our website and fill out a form regarding things like the organic and fair trade share of their product portfolio. To the define the sustainability of a locality, the oikos EcoMap team has developed a defined set of criteria, which can be widely applied. The website allows users to filter for various criteria and locations, to find whatever suits him best.
Initially based in St. Gallen the HQ is now in Hamburg, Germany. We are organised in local teams that go out to recruit new shops for our website. Each team is responsible for a city or region, its own funding, marketing and operations. St. Gallen is currently the only active team in Switzerland, so our goal for this coming year, is to add several new cities to the map.
The EcoMap is a virtual map that indicates ethical and ecological sustainable shops in St. Gallen and other European cities. In order to be listed on the EcoMap, stores must fill in a standardized questionnaire, the ecoscore, which will allow us to rate their “sustainability impact”. A re-designed Ecomap homepage and a new application is about to be launched soon. We will announce it as soon as it’s ready - stay tuned.
